Story behind PROVENANCE wine label

 

It revolves around wine, some happiness, joy, the joy of drinking wine. I started off by putting symbols into the label that I’ve built up over the last 10 years or so, that I have constantly worked with.

 

I started deciphering it in a way, trying to make it as simple as possible. I started on the left hand side with a figure, you’ll see he’s holding a secret grape in his hand, it’s a very mechanical process that takes part in the winemaking process. If you follow the lines that go all the way down to a stripy leg and a stripy stomach, this represents the actual tannins that connect, almost like a DNA strand.

 

His right hand is very mechanical as well, you will see in his eye, he’s discovered the secret grape. The barefeet represent the primitive way of winemaking. The figure on the right is turned upside down on his head, just to show that surprises happen, and by turning things on it’s head, it makes it more playful, and discoveries are made.

 

The yellow represents the sun. The green body reminds me of vineyards and land as seen from an aeroplane, as seen from above.

Various other elements were added that represent hands and also tools and man made pathways that lead to the vineyards.
