That’s me on the corner
In 2010, Paul was approached by Jacques Osse, the owner of the Strand Towers Hotel in Cape Town to conceptualise a sculpture for the hotel.
Paul presented a maquette to Jacques of the piece he envisaged, and Jacques agreed immediately.
Music played a significant role in Paul’s life in general and inspired him creatively.
The title is adapted from the R.E.M song ‘That’s me in the corner’.
The piece is a 6 meter sculpture, sitting on the corner of Loop and Strand Streets, Cape Town.
The sculpture was sand cast in aluminium, and painted with automotive oil paints in Paul’s signature prime colours.
It forms part of a triangle of public pieces in Cape Town by Paul, the other 2 being the Rock Girl Bench at the start of the Fanwalk, and the public sculpture ‘Into tomorrow’ on Riebeeck Square.
